The permit in plain language

What is the DMSB Permit Nordschleife?

If you want to race on the Nordschleife in the NLS, the 24h Qualifiers or the 24h Nürburgring, you need an extra authorisation on top of your racing licence: the DMSB Permit Nordschleife (DPN). It shows that you know the track, the flags and the traffic on the Nordschleife.

Everyone starts with the DPN e-learning and an online test. After that, it depends on the car you want to drive: there are three levels, C, B and A. With Permit B you race the NLS and the 24h in a category B car such as our BMW 125i M. And since 2026 Permit A is easier to get: one good NLS race can be enough.

Permit C

The entry level

For the RCN race "Schwedenkreuz" and classic series.

Permit B

NLS and 24h in category B

For the NLS, the Qualifiers and the 24h in category B cars (power-to-weight ratio above 4.2 kg/hp, including V2, V4, VT2, SP1–SP4). Obtained with an international D-Circuit licence via the DMSB-recognised DPN course or via 2 RCN Leistungsprüfungen.

Permit A

GT4, Cup and GT3

For category A cars such as GT4/SP10, Porsche Cup and GT3. You get it with Permit B plus at least 1 penalty-free race result and at least 8 laps in a category B car at the NLS, the Qualifiers or the 24h.

The fleet

Which car?

Which car you may drive depends on your permit. You start in category B — and we grow with you.

Category B — with Permit B

Our BMW 125i M is the permit car: expected NLS class VT2, category B — so racing with Permit B is allowed. In this car you race the RCN, the NLS and the 24h.

Category A — with Permit A, on request

Once you hold Permit A, the faster cars in our fleet are within reach. Use on the Nordschleife on request.

Expected class, subject to confirmation: the final classification is made by the organiser at scrutineering.

Frequently asked questions about racing on the Nordschleife

What is the DMSB Permit Nordschleife (DPN)?

An additional authorisation from the German motorsport federation DMSB, mandatory for the NLS, the 24h Qualifiers and the 24h Nürburgring. There are three levels — C, B and A — and everyone starts with the DPN e-learning and an online test.

Which licence do I need?

For Permit B via the DPN course or via 2 RCN Leistungsprüfungen you need an international D-Circuit licence. If you only hold a national licence, you first drive 3 RCN rounds. No licence yet? You can get one through our licence course, from €1,250 excl. VAT.

How long does it take?

With the 2027 calendar it can be done in one season: your permit in autumn 2026 or spring 2027, your first NLS races on 20 March and 17 April, and the 24h Nürburgring from 27 to 30 May 2027. How fast it goes for you depends on your licence and your experience — we plan it together.

Roughly how much does it cost in total?

That depends on where you start. As a guide, excl. VAT: the Permit B Programme costs €9,950, an NLS seat from €7,500 per driver per race and the 24h Nürburgring from €24,500 per driver. On top of that come your licence, the DMSB fees for your permit and your accommodation. You receive a tailor-made quote in advance.

Which car will I drive?

Our BMW 125i M: expected NLS class VT2, category B, so racing with Permit B is allowed. With Permit A you can also drive a category A car on request, such as the BMW M2 CS Racing, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 or the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. The final classification is made by the organiser at scrutineering.

What about damage and insurance?

We discuss that in advance in your quote; our rental contract applies.

Can I use my own car?

For Nordschleife Coaching, yes: you do it in your own car, from €1,499 excl. VAT. For the RCN, the NLS and the 24h we race with our own cars and our own crew.

What is the difference between the RCN and the NLS?

The RCN is the entry series: 8 rounds from March to October, mostly Leistungsprüfungen — a performance and regularity run, not a classic race. The NLS is real endurance racing: races of usually 4 hours in which you share the car with team-mates.
